You can count on it.

You’ve hiked, packed, floated, driven all over Alaska…and never found a legal moose.  Maybe been teased by a sublegal bull or two, or seen big racks in other trucks passing you on the highway.

Maybe even helped a buddy pack out his or her bull, which certainly earns some roasts in the freezer.

Back at home, tag unpunched, gear packed away and ready to start planning for 2017 or maybe a down South deer hunt.

So whatever you do…don’t look out in the yard.  Because you can count on a 50-inch bull standing outside your window.

Happened to me yesterday.  A beautiful bull moose chased a cow past my window, 50 yards from the freezer, and stopped long enough to, dare I say, sneer in my direction.

Only consolation was he might have been only 49 inches and definitely only had two brow tines on each side.

At least that’s what I’m telling myself until next year!
