May 8 will be the last meeting of the Alaska Sport Fishing Association, 6:30 p.m. at the Anchorage Cabela’s.
Join Jay Baumer, Anchorage, Prince William Sound, and North Gulf Coast Area Management Biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
This free event is open to the public and fishermen are encouraged to attend and learn more about rockfish and how to safely release them.
Jay will discuss how rockfish, which have an extremely long life expectancy, can survive the effects of “barotrauma”, as seen in this picture, by simply using a deepwater release mechanism. Jay will have deepwater release mechanisms to hand out to anglers who are interested. Beginning in 2020, all Prince William Sound sport fishing vessels are required to have a deepwater release mechanism on board to use when releasing rockfish.
ADF&G reminds anglers that in 2018 new rockfish and lingcod regulations are in effect for the Prince William Sound area.
The meeting will be in the Cabela’s conference room.
ADF&G will be giving away Deepwater Release Devices.  ASFA will also be giving away several door prizes including great fishing gear. But you must be present to win.
