Yes, the Southeast King Salmon fishery still closes April 15.

The release from ADF&G this week on regional king salmon regulations created some confusion on whether sport fishing for spring kings was in fact closing. That regional update on limits and gear was for the entire Southeast. Last month’s closure  for the region north and south of Juneau supercedes the regional regulation and remains in effect.

Last chance for Juneau-area anglers to catch and keep a king until mid-June is today (April 14).

The closure is intended to protect the struggling Taku River king run and covers the entire region where those Taku kings are migrating during the next 60 days to spawn.
