The Northern Pacific Fisheries Council, the organization that oversees Federal fisheries in Alaska waters, is meeting in Anchorage this week and next.

Critical for Alaska anglers is today’s discussion (Friday morning) on how to manage the significant bycatch of king (chinook) salmon in the pollock trawl fisheries in the Bering Sea.

Other salmon, especially chums, are also a big bycatch component of this fishery.

We’ll report on the results later, but y0u can listen in live right now at the link below.  Powerful information about the tens of thousands of valuable king salmon killed in this bottom fishery every year, that would have been destined for salmon runs  throughout Alaska.
