Modern Fish Act could be game changer

This week in Washington D.C., Congress is considering signature legislation to give sport fishermen a seat at the table in managing marine fisheries, including Alaska’s.
The Modernizing Recreational Fisheries Management Act (shortened to Modern Fish Act) would add consideration for recreational anglers in the management of fisheries long dedictated solely commercial fishing. The core goal of the act is to have fisheries management embrace that commercial and recreational fishing are both valuable and also vastly different, and that one-size-fits-all management is not working.
The good news for Alaskans is that Senator Dan Sullivan is taking a leading role in this discussion.
