No regulatory action will be taken at this meeting.  Agenda topics may include:  election of officers\, agenda change requests\, petitions\, meeting organization\, creation of board generated proposals\, establishing committees for the 2017/2018 meeting cycle\, setting locations and dates for the 2019/20 meeting cycle\, informational reports\, executive sessions and administrative issues that may come before the board. \nThe board’s 2017 agenda change requests (ACRs) are available for review on the board’s website. ACRs are submitted by the public\, advisory committees\, and agencies seeking regulatory change for regions and species not up for deliberation in the current meeting cycle. DESCRIPTION:Trout Unlimited Alaska is planning to host a chinook salmon panel\, scheduled for Oct. 17\, at 49th State Brewery in Anchorage\, as an opportunity for the average Alaskan to sort out what trends have been occurring with regard to king salmon in recent years\, to learn from the experts\, and to see what we all might do in the future to retain this mainstay of Alaskan fishing. \nWhile still in the planning stages\, we are hoping to live-stream or pod-cast the event. Topics will include: The Board of Fish process and how it works\, a look at how chinook populations around the state are faring\, as well as what research is currently underway and what new research might be introduced or needed. \nPanel members will include: Ed Jones\, ADF&G Chinook Salmon Research Initiative Coordinator; Dr. Megan McPhee\, University of Alaska\, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences; and Robert Ruffner\, Alaska Board of Fish member. All meetings are open to the public.\n\n\nASFA is a Statewide public service organization working to improve the quality of Alaska fisheries for the sport and personal use/subsistence fisherman. \nWe exist to bring those people together to protect\, enhance and improve the Alaskan Fishing Experience. We draw upon our members for insights\, information\, tips and ideas that will improve that experience.  Objectives include public education about the fisheries resource as a whole\,  fisheries quality enhancement which includes improved access\, fish population enhancement by various means\, conservation and remediation of habitat\, youth education and to help guide stewardship of the Alaska fishing. \n\n\nAny member of the public may become a member at this meeting and participate in the November 14 Officer Elections.\n\nThose interested in running for President\, Vice President\, Secretary/ Treasurer should attend and be prepared to indicate why they are interested and wish to be considered for one of those positions.  ASFA will also elect/appoint ASFA Chapter Directors for Anchorage\, Mat-Su\, JBER\, Fairbanks\, Kenai\, Homer and Seward.\n\nProject Directors are needed for the following initiatives:\nIntegration\, to integrate other organizations into ASFA to increase influence with the BOF and the State Legislature\nLeadworks\, a  fundraising project\nMembership\nBoard of Fish Proposals\nShip Creek Cleanup and Enhancement Director\n\nThese positions offer the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the sport and subsistence communities in Alaska and provide significant individual personal fulfillment. DESCRIPTION:Fishing is at Whisky Gulch for kayak anglers will and able to tackle Cook Inlet Halibut. \nThe Tournament starts at daylight or in this case 4:45am.\nThe tournament will end at 6pm. \nThe winner will be the single largest halibut by weight.  If for some reason we don’t have a scale large enough\, we will go by length. \nThe timing means you get to hit the ULTRA low minus tide (minus 5.2) which is at 9:54am and if you don’t catch fish by then\, you can also hit the high tide at 4pm though you will have to stay closer to the launch. \nWith the bigger tides\, the current will change fairly quickly after the shore high tide. \nI wil be contributing a trophy and some fishing gear. \nAaron of 907 kayakers (https://www.facebook.com/907kayakers/) has graciously donated a $100 gift certificate from Sportsman’s warehouse. \nKen Wake from Prepper’s Pack (https://www.facebook.com/prepperspack.08/)has said he would donate items as well. \nIf anyone would like to contribute or know someone who will\, let me know.  I will make sure they get mentioned.  I will also keep updating this thread with any new information or prizes. \nThe main focus is just a get together and bragging rights. \nShare this:FacebookX

SUMMARY:Campbell Creek Youth-Only King Salmon Weekend
DESCRIPTION:The 2017 Youth-Only Fishery for king salmon on Campbell Creek in Anchorage will take place from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday\, June 24 and Sunday\, June 25. \nAnglers who are 15 years of age and younger will have a chance to fish for king salmon on Campbell Creek between Dimond Boulevard and the Old Seward Highway. The Youth-Only Fishery was established by the Alaska State Legislature and implemented by the Alaska Board of Fisheries to provide a special opportunity for young people to get out and go fishing. Youth anglers do not need a sport fishing license or king salmon stamp but do need a Harvest Record Card. Any king salmon harvested must be recorded immediately on the Harvest Record Card. While adults can assist youth anglers in landing a fish\, this section of Campbell Creek is closed to all fishing\, including catch-and-release\, for anglers 16 and older during this time. As with all fisheries in Alaska\, the fish belongs to the angler that sets the hook. \nAlaska Department of Fish and Game staff and volunteers will be at the Taku-Campbell Lake parking lot off of 76th and King Street to help young anglers\, from approximately 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.on Saturday\, June 24. Fishing rods will also be available for kids to check out and use on a first come basis during this timeframe. \nThe harvest limits for king salmon 20 inches or greater is one per day\, and one in possession. These kings count toward the regional annual limit of five king salmon\, 20 inches or longer. The harvest limit for king salmon less than 20 inches is five per day\, and five in possession. Campbell Creek is closed to fishing for other species of salmon at this time. Bait is allowed during this time. Snagging is not allowed. \nKids may also find rainbow trout and Dolly Varden in the creek. The limits for rainbow trout and Dolly Varden in Campbell Creek are five per day and five in possession for each species. DESCRIPTION:Trout Unlimited Southcentral AK Chapter\, Alaska Lakes Guide Service llc\, Go Fish Yourself Custom Rods are sponsoring a Northern Pike tournament Saturday.   The mission to remove as many Northern Pike from Big Lake as possible with emphasis on the big spawning females to assist in saving the native trout\, char\, and salmon populations. \nNorthern pike are an invasive species in southcentral Alaska and are a voracious predator of trout of all sizes\, but especially fry. \nTournament is Saturday May 20\, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration will be 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. at Big Lake North State Recreation Area (16905 North Shore Dr\, Wasilla\, AK 99654). Boats will line up in the water in order of registration and will be released once a boat check has occurred. It will not be a shotgun start. Kayaks will be released first. Poor runs may mean neither sport nor commercial fishing for Copper River fish this year. \n\nThe meeting starts at 1 p.m. and will be streamed online live. \nThis is an expanded agenda from the board’s special meeting on the Bering Sea Tanner Crab Harvest Strategy\, to be held May 17-18 \nAt the very beginning of the meeting will be a review of the emergency petition requesting the board consider a number of measures to limit the harvest of king salmon in the Prince William Sound commercial salmon fishery.
